I am a highly creative and innovative designer who thrives on collaboration and gets a kick out of problem solving. Widely experienced in design and print. Currently managing a design team in addition to multiple external creatives.
I currently work as the Design Manager of a busy design department for F&W Media International Ltd, having previously worked for several years as an Art Editor at the same company. This role has seen my focus shift from regular, hands-on design work towards creative consultation and project management. I currently co-ordinate design resource for a publishing frontlist programme of 20 craft titles and provide creative input at all levels within the business:
Critiquing and developing design and photography to ensure final designs are perfected to a standard of excellence.
Creating mood boards, covering typeface, colour palette and photography for each large project.
Commissioning designers and creatives, ensuring cohesive design throughout all stages of the book development.
Working closely with production manager during the book development to agree print finishes.
Each book has a unique brand which is applied consistently throughout. I often develop concepts and lay out advance spreads which become the blueprint for the book.
Collaboration is important to this role. My time is often spent attending planning meetings and liaising with other departments for briefings, feedback and further development of designs.
All published titles have a budget which are allocated to photography, propping and other creative services. I am responsible in ensuring that budgets are adhered to and carefully recorded.
It is always my goal to streamline creative processes to improve both quality and efficiency. Training and development of design skills within the department are an important part of this.
