Art Editor - F+W Media International

My move in 2012 to F&W Media was aimed to expand on my book design experience along with photography direction and commissioning of art. This is currently an area of development for the company and I led the way in setting up styled shoots in a DIY studio for my title ‘Sew Cute to Carry’, creating sets and sourcing props to ensure the clean, modern theme was maintained whilst keeping within the set budget. We have since been working towards a majority of styled photography being carried out in an in-house studio and this has led to the hiring of a company photographer / videographer with whom I collaborate closely on all manner of new projects. I have recently been involved in styling sets for video shoots, alongside my usual art direction for stills shoots. 

This role includes the design of graphics and materials for our main online brands. I implemented a Data Merge process which has made catalogue design much easier and quicker, as well as working with the Marketing Managers to develop the main site brand at There is more to be done but I feel I have made a definite impact. Recently I have been involved in rebranding for our newly acquired partner site Work continues on this but should be rolled out in 2016. During our recent office move I was asked to commission and manage the creation and installation of several Wall graphics which I had printed as decals and applied in time for our move in date. The success of these was such that they will be used to decorate our trade stands and as backgrounds for video shoots in the future.

Senior Designer - Exeter

In my six years at Exeter I performed a wide range of duties. I took a pre-press course which enabled me to check supplied files for technical issues this gave me a good grounding in the print process. I liaised directly with clients to provide design solutions for a range of applications from complete company brand identities to leaflets, flyers, vehicle graphics, point of sale and more.

This was a public facing role in which I had direct contact with the clients, advised them on marketing ideas, print options, special offers and design options. I put together design and print budgets for each individual client and called with quotations, negotiating where necessary to complete the sale. 

I was given responsibility for the day to day management of the studio and designers, mentoring new staff, organising and monitoring workflow, briefing in work and critiquing designs. This enabled the owner to attend networking events and turn his attention to business development.
